Chef Sophos

Sharing Khmer Culture Through Food

Chef Sophos created his Khmer food experiences and cooking classes to give visitors a more authentic and personal understanding of Cambodia through food. Rather than offering a standard tourist cooking class, he wanted to create experiences that feel genuine, relaxed, and connected to real local life.

Through traditional Khmer cooking, local ingredients, village visits, and conversation, guests are able to experience the culture, hospitality, and everyday traditions that are such an important part of Cambodian life. For Sophos, cooking is not only about preparing food. It is a way to bring people together and share the warmth, stories, and culture of his community.

Sophos

Sophos was born on June 6, 1986, in a small rural village around 50 kilometers east of Siem Reap. Growing up in the Cambodian countryside shaped the values that still guide his life today: family, community, hospitality, and helping others whenever possible.

Today, Sophos is at the heart of Khmer Food Experiences. More than just a cooking instructor, he shares the stories, traditions, and traditions behind Cambodian food with guests from around the world. His cooking classes are built around authentic Khmer recipes, local ingredients, and the warm hospitality Cambodia is known for.

Many of the dishes taught during the classes are inspired by family meals and recipes passed down through generations. For Sophos, Cambodian food is deeply connected to memory, culture, and bringing people together around the table.

Sophos married his wife, Sophal, in 2009, and together they have three children. Family remains central to both his personal life and the welcoming atmosphere guests experience during his cooking classes.

Giving Back to the Community

Supporting the local community is an important part of Sophos’s life and the values behind Khmer Food Experiences.

Despite running a busy business, Sophos remains closely connected to his home village and regularly organises community events and fundraising activities to help those in need. These efforts include supporting local families, helping children within the community, and bringing people together through local events and charitable initiatives.

By joining a cooking class with Khmer Food Experiences, guests are also supporting a business that believes in giving back and staying connected to the local community.

Sophos hopes every guest leaves not only with new cooking skills, but also with a deeper understanding of Cambodian culture, local life, and the people behind the food.
